II. BPED — bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BMED) application scenario samples
2.1 Preparation of lithium hydroxide with bipolar membranes
Technical route: after lithium batteries are dismantled, sulfuric acid is used for dissolution to form lithium sulfate, which then enters resin to remove multivalent ions and meet the feedwater quality requirements for bipolar membranes. The bipolar membrane process produces sulfuric acid and lithium hydroxide.
Principle overview:
BPM (bipolar membrane) dissociates water inside the membrane into H⁺ and OH⁻
The feed solution is fed into the cathode chamber and anode chamber, respectively
In the middle C/A chamber, H⁺, OH⁻, and SO₄²⁻ ions migrate directionally under the electric field
The outlets produce H₂SO₄ and LiOH respectively (by-product Li₂SO₄)
